Delhi Police Constable Cheated of ₹24 Lakh; 20 Women Allegedly Targeted

Delhi Police constable cheating case involving ₹24 lakh and accused Vikrant Tomar
Delhi Police arrested Vikrant Kumar alias Vicky Tomar in connection with an alleged ₹24 lakh cheating case involving a woman constable.

New Delhi, October 26: Delhi Police Constable fraud allegations have led to the arrest of a man accused of cheating a woman police constable of approximately ₹24 lakh after befriending her on social media and promising lucrative investment returns. Investigators are examining whether the accused used similar tactics to target nearly 20 other women constables.

The accused, identified as Vikrant Kumar alias Vicky Tomar, was arrested from Delhi’s Burari area on October 23. Police said he allegedly projected himself as a wealthy businessman through social media posts featuring luxury cars, expensive restaurants and an extravagant lifestyle.

The case has attracted widespread attention after reports suggested that several women from the same police recruitment batch may have been approached by the accused through promises of marriage and financial prosperity.

How the Alleged Fraud Began

According to police, the investigation began following a complaint filed by a woman constable posted in central Delhi. The accused allegedly contacted her through Instagram, initially seeking guidance about recruitment into the Delhi Police under the sports quota.

Their conversations subsequently moved to WhatsApp, where he reportedly gained her confidence by presenting himself as a successful individual with connections to professional cricket.

Police said the accused eventually persuaded the constable to invest money by promising unusually high returns. Trusting his assurances, she transferred her savings, obtained a personal loan of ₹12 lakh and borrowed additional money from acquaintances.

The complainant allegedly lost approximately ₹24 lakh through these transactions. Investigators also discovered that around ₹8 lakh had been transferred to bank accounts associated with an online betting platform.

Luxury Cars Used to Create an Impression of Wealth

Investigators believe the accused deliberately cultivated an image of financial success to attract potential victims. He allegedly rented expensive cars for several hours and used them to take women on outings, creating the impression that he owned the vehicles.

His Instagram profile reportedly featured videos and photographs of luxury cars, expensive dining experiences and other displays of wealth. Police suspect these carefully presented images helped him gain the confidence of women he approached online.

Reports suggest that the accused also promised marriage to some of the women before allegedly seeking money under various pretexts.

Nearly 20 Women Constables Under Investigation

The investigation has raised concerns that the alleged fraud may extend beyond the original complainant.

According to media reports, police suspect that nearly 20 women constables belonging to the same recruitment batch may have been approached or targeted by the accused. However, the precise number of victims and the total financial losses have not yet been independently established.

Investigators are also examining whether the accused obtained information about other women constables through his live-in partner, who reportedly serves in the Delhi Police.

Several women believed to have been approached have reportedly not filed formal complaints.

Previous Cases and Police Investigation

Police records reportedly show that the accused was already facing five cheating cases registered at different police stations in Delhi, including Mayapuri, Hari Nagar, Inderpuri and the East District Cyber Police Station.

He had reportedly been released from jail on bail in June 2026.

In the latest case, the complainant has also accused him of inappropriate physical contact during a personal meeting. Police have registered offences relating to cheating, criminal breach of trust and outraging a woman’s modesty under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Central District Cyber Police are examining bank transactions, social media communications and other financial records to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud.

Case Sparks Reactions on Social Media

The allegations have generated considerable discussion online, with social media users drawing comparisons between the accused and the fictional conman portrayed by Ranveer Singh in the Bollywood film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

While some users expressed disbelief that several police personnel could allegedly be targeted through similar methods, others raised concerns about financial deception through online relationships and misleading displays of wealth.

Police are continuing their investigation to identify additional complainants, trace the missing money and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
